Things to consider when shopping for laminate floors:
As part of your laminate floor estimate what quality of underlayment is being installed ?
Underlayment prices will vary from $0.20 to $0.40 per square foot .The better the quality of
underlayment, the higher the rating for impact Isolation and a sound transmission
.Therefore, the better quality of underlayment will quiet the hollow
sound when you walk on your new laminate floor and will ultimately keep your neighbor downstairs a whole lot happier
Is removal and disposal of your current floor included in the estimate?
Should you consider changing your baseboards?
Changing the baseboards is really up to the customer, however if you don't change the baseboards the installer would use quarter round, which is a
mounding to cover the 1/4 inch gap ( needed for expansion) between the floors and the base boards
What Type of quarter round is being installed as part of the laminate floor estimate?
Usually you have a choice of a quarter round that matches with your floors or one that is basic white (primed) to match with your baseboard.
Is the installation of moldings included in the estimate?

What type of floors do you have in the room adjacent to the room that you are installing the new laminate?
For example : If you have Mexican tile in the hallway next to the room where you are planning to install a 8 mm laminate, there will be a difference in height which could be a problem when walking in and out of the room! To rectify this problem a 12mm laminate floor would level out the difference.
Things to consider when shopping for hardwood floors solid or engineered floor:
Do you know what method of installations is being used for your engineered floor estimate?
There are different installation methods for wood flooring which include Nail Down, Staple Down, Glue Down, and Free-Float.
There is a big difference in price between a glue down method , nail down method and a free floating method
Floating - this is a popular option because it is both stable and forgiving. It is not attached to the sub-floor and, once put down, will not creak. It is a quick and efficient installation method, and cost-effective.
• Nail down (staple down) - this is a modern alternative to traditional techniques, and used primarily with engineered plan wood, strip wood or solid bamboo wood. Installation is quick and easy but it can be noisy when walked on. It is reasonably quick to lay and relatively inexpensive.
• Glue-down - this technique is used primarily with plywood floors. It can be quieter to walk on than a staple down installation, with less creaking when the floors expands and contracts. It is a stable floor, which sounds and feels solid. However, installation can be time-consuming and more costly
